An apparatus for writing a family history in a medical information system and a family history writing method thereof are provided. The apparatus includes: a display unit for displaying a family history writing menu, and displaying a configuration symbol selected through the family history writing menu on a family history writing window; an input processing unit for receiving an editing command from a user through the family history writing menu; and a family history writing unit for setting a connection symbol connecting configuration symbols, based on the editing command, to write a family history.
