The blind rivet (10) has a mandrel (16) which is configured to annularly surround a sleeve (26). The mandrel is provided with a self-piercing rivet mandrel (20). A through hole for the rivet mandrel and the sleeve in the workpieces is introduced. The rivet mandrel is provided with a receiving cavity (38) displaced as a result of the plasticizing the workpiece material. The sleeve has an outer diameter (27) which is smaller than the largest outer diameter (21) of the self-piercing rivet mandrel.
