Disclosed are a memory controller operation method and a memory device thereof. The operation method of the memory controller includes the steps of: receiving the data which the controller intends to program from a host and storing the data in a buffer; transmitting a program completion signal to the host when the data is stored in the buffer; and dumping the data stored in the buffer to respective dump areas of two non-volatile memory chips among multiple non-volatile memory chips when a sudden power off occurs before programming the data stored in the buffer to one of the multiple non-volatile memory chips.
