<p>Continuous coating of electrical conductors of aluminum or aluminum alloy present in wire- (2) and band form, comprises subjecting the aluminum conductor to at least (a) degreasing, (b) activation of a surface in an alkaline bath, (c) anodic conditioning in the presence of a detergent, an acid, and optionally a metal salt, (d) cathodic conditioning in the presence of a detergent, an acid and a metal salt, (e) optionally repeating the steps (c) and/or (d) until at least one layer thickness is reached to 0.025-0.4 mu m of an applied metal layer, or (f) coating with a desired coating layer. An independent claim is also included for aluminum conductors present in wire- or band form comprising a core of aluminum or an aluminum alloy with at least 80 wt.% aluminum, an adhesion-promoting intermediate layer of at least one metal, preferably manganese, iron, cobalt and/or nickel with a thickness of 0.025-0 4 mu m, and a top layer of copper, silver or other metals or combinations of metals. The core material is completely free of aluminum oxide, and a boundary surface with inter-metallic phases is formed between the core material and the intermediate layer.</p> |
