Provided are a method and device for adjusting a signal frequency, which relate to the field of communications. The method comprises: receiving a light signal and a local oscillation signal; after performing frequency mixing and photoelectric conversion on the received light signal and the local oscillation signal, outputting an intermediate frequency signal; and when the frequency of the intermediate frequency signal exceeds a preset frequency range, adjusting the intermediate frequency signal according to the relationship between the frequency of the light signal and the frequency of the local oscillation signal, so that the frequency of the adjusted intermediate frequency signal is smaller than or equal to the bandwidth of a coherent receiver and greater than or equal to twice the rate of the received light signal. The device comprises: a receiving module, an output module and an adjustment module. The present invention can reduce the power fluctuation and noise generated by a local oscillation light source, improve the receiving sensitivity of a receiving end, and avoid the loss of data.
