A positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention contains, as a positive electrode active material, layered lithium transition metal oxide particles (A) and spinel-type lithium transition metal oxide particles (B) at a ratio (weight ratio) A:B of from 20:80 to 80:20. The particle size distribution of the positive electrode active material has a peak assigned to the particles (A) and a peak assigned to the particles (B) within the range of 1-50 μm. The particle diameter A(D50) of the particles (A) at a cumulative frequency of 50% and the particle diameter B(D50) of the particles (B) at a cumulative frequency of 50% in the cumulative distribution curve of the particle diameters satisfy formula (1), and the particle diameter A(D95) of the particles (A) at a cumulative frequency of 95% and the particle diameter B(D5) of the particles (B) at a cumulative frequency of 5% satisfy formula (2).
