FERROMAGNETIC SORBENT

The alleged invention relates to the field of ecology, in particular to sorbents for oil spill response. It can be used in mechanical engineering, metallurgy and chemical technologies. The proposed sorbent with ferromagnetic properties, made in the form of a closed hollow microspheres using the products of coal combustion in power plant, supplemented with ferromagnetic particles and treated with component of high specific surface area. The manufacturing process of proposed sorbent includes feeding of raw components in reactor – rotating drum, where components are stuck one to other due to adhesive component. Finally the sorbent is treated by oleophilic composition. The proposed sorbent allows to clean efficiently and the surface of water contaminated by oil products. Especially it is effective for thin oil having layers of 1 to 2 mm, when other sorbents are not so effective. Sorbent can be distributed on the surface with a mechanical device or compressed air. Due to the great buoyancy the proposed absorbent can be long enough on water due to the forces of adhesion, seizing and holding the oil products on the surface. Removal of the absorbent together with oil,can be realized by means of magnetic or electromagnetic cllector.
