The refrigerating- and freezing appliance has a sensor for measuring the quality of foods, where the sensor is a spectrometer, particularly a near-infrared spectroscopy-spectrometer. The spectrometer is fixedly arranged to the appliance, particularly on the operating- and display unit of the appliance or is arranged in cooled inner space of the appliance or on the appliance outer side. The spectrometer is arranged above a storage area for cooling- or frozen goods, particularly relative to a drawer. An independent claim is included for a system with a receiving unit.
