The device (100) has a machine handling region (101) and an operator handling region (102) provided at a same location for serving as a common handling region. A protective screen (104) is movably mounted within or at the device so that the screen is movable between a position (S1) and another position. The screen blocks manual receiving of a component (B) and/or delivery of the component into the common handling region in the former position. The screen blocks receiving of the component and/or delivery of the component into the common handling region by a gripper in the latter position. An independent claim is also included for a method for component handling in a machine.
