1,125,774. Lowering devices. M. L. AVIATION CO. Ltd. 25 Oct., 1966 [18 Aug., 1965], No. 35442/65. Heading F2X. [Also in Divisions A6, B7 and E2] A device particularly for enabling a person to lower himself at a controlled rate down a cord attached to a parachute caught in a tree, comprises a frame 2 defining a tortuous path for the cord 6 between two fixed members 10 and 14 and a curved part 11 of an upper arm of a pivoted, two-armed member 12 to limit the maximum speed of descent by friction; and a link and lever mechanism 27 and 31, for attachment to the person by means of a hook 7, adapted to be moved between an upper and lower position, the two-armed member 12 being biased automatically by tension in the cord to grip the cord between a curved part 20 of the lower arm and a curved part 18 of a pivoted member 16 to apply a braking force to the cord, which force can be reduced by a pivoted control member 22 operated by the person, to allow lowering at a controlled rate, the lever 31 of the attachment means, in the lower position of the means, preventing rotation of the pivoted member 16 and thereby enabling application of the braking force to the cord and in the upper position permitting rotation of the member 16 so that the brake is rendered ineffective and the device can be moved up the cord if desired. |
