The laser device (1) has housing (9), which has an outlet port (16) for decoupling a laser beam (3) from the laser device. A measuring unit (2) is provided for emitting the laser beam and detecting a distance value from a receiving beam coming from a target object. The direction, in which a user looks into an optical sighting unit (8), is oriented parallel to the optical axis of the laser beam decoupled through the outlet port from the laser device.
