The present invention relates to a safety apparatus for a cabin descending work in an excavator material handler and a method of driving the same. The safety apparatus for a cabin descending work in an excavator material handler according to the present invention comprises: an elevating switch for outputting a signal used to command the ascending or descending of a cabin to a valve controller through manual manipulation; an obstacle detector for sensing an obstacle existing under the cabin and for outputting a detection signal to the valve controller; an alarm sound generator for generating an alarm sound in order to inform access deny to the outside of the cabin under according to the control of the valve controller; the valve controller for controlling a hydraulic valve according to the signal from the elevating switch to apply oil pressure to an actuator through the hydraulic valve to move up or move down the cabin, wherein, in the process of moving down the cabin, the valve controller controls the alarm sound generator to generate an alarm sound, and if the obstacle is detected through the obstacle detector, the vlve controller controls the hydraulic valve until the detection of a corresponding obstacle is canceled, thereby stopping the moving down of the cabin; and the hydraulic valve for controlling the oil pressure to be applied to the actuator for driving the cabin according to the control of the valve controller. Accordingly, in the excavator material handler, the alarm sound is generated when the cabin is moved down, and the obstacle under the cabin is detected to thereby stop the moving down of the cabin, thereby previously preveiously preventing the collision of the cabin with the obstacle existing under the cabin and thus safely moving down the cabin, so that the work safety can be improved.
