PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tungsten oxide fine particles of monoclinic crystals in which the control of particle sizes is possible, flocculation is eliminated, dispersion is excellent, and particle form is uniform, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In the tungsten oxide fine particles with a planar particle shape is characterized in that the average particle size is 1 to 500 nm, the relative standard deviation of a particle size distribution is≤50.0%, crystal structure is composed of monoclinic crystals, and the value obtained by dividing the crystalline size by the average particle size is≥0.40. The tungsten oxide fine particles can be produced by bringing a solution or slurry with a pH of <7 including a tungsten compound into hydrothermal reaction under the condition of≥200°C.
