A rotary electric machine comprises a core (11) having a plurality of slots (16); and a coil piece (20A, 20B, 20C) (20A, 20B, 20C) mounted onto the core (11), wherein the coil piece (20A, 20B, 20C) is formed by repeatedly winding wire (18) having a rectangular cross-section so that the wire (18) forms a plurality of wire layers that are laminated in a single row, with the wider surfaces of the rectangular wire (18) serving as laminated surfaces. The coil piece (20A, 20B, 20C) has first portions (22) each inserted into one of the slots (16) and second portions (23) that are not inserted into the slots, and wherein the first portions (22) and the second portions (23) are arranged alternately along a direction in which the wire extends. The wire layers (18) in each first portion (22) are laminated while being aligned along a circumferential direction of the core (11), which intersects the depth of the corresponding slot (16). The rotary electric machine includes several coil pieces (20A, 20B, 20C) which are connected to one another with a connecting wire (24),
the coil pieces (20A, 20B, 20C) being inserted into the slots (16) so that all the coil pieces (20A, 20B, 20C) in the same slot (16) are in phase, and so that the several coil pieces (20A, 20B, 20C) form several laminated rows in each slot (16) which are arranged in the direction of the depth of the slot (16). |
