<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely realize energy-saving without a power-off operation by a user to prevent wasteful power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A coordinate detection device 3 has a position detection mode and a frequency monitoring mode, and includes sensing coils X1-Xm and Y1-Yn. When it is determined that an electronic pen 2 is in an unattended position state in the position detection mode, the mode of the device is switched from the position detection mode to the frequency monitoring mode.
