<p>The invention relates to an operating method for a relay (20) of a professional radiocommunication system (10) which is suitable for operating in two modes: a digital operation mode, used by default, in which said relay exchanges digital signals with one or more digital terminals (30a), and an analogue operating mode in which said relay exchanges analogue signals with one or more analogue terminals (30b). The method comprises a recurring step (50) of searching for analogue activity, a step (51) of switching to the analogue operating mode, executed when analogue activity is detected, the digital operating mode being interrupted when the relay (20) is in analogue operating mode, and a step (52) of returning to the digital operating mode, executed when an analogue inactivity criterion is fulfilled and/or after a maximum predefined time of interruption of the digital operating mode.
