A mains plug has a contact layout similar to a conventional UK plug except that the earth pin is relocated to between the live and neutral pins. The plug has a smaller footprint and so three sockets can be mounted on a fascia of the same size as that of a single conventional socket. The sockets are spaced such that a conventional mains plug can be connected (see receptacles indicated in black). The plug has a movable earth pin (see Figs 18 and 19) so that it can be used in a conventional socket. The socket includes a modular connector (02, Fig 10) which allows the mains cable to be connected in a ring and tested before the socket is installed. This connector may clip over and pierce a mains cable, see Figs 11 and 12. |
