956,826. Filters for liquids. SULZER FRERES S.A. June 5, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 21737/62. Heading BID. In a nozzle bed 1 for a filtration plant the spaces between the filter nozzles 2 in the filter bed are filled with upwardly narrowing intermediate elements such as pyramids 3. The elements may be integral with the bed, or be introducible into the bed and secured by the nozzles as at 4, or can be manufactured together with a plate which is formed with apertures for the nozzles and which is secured to the nozzle bed. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the elements take the form of intersecting ridges defining squares or other polygonal cells, one nozzle being located in each cell. The bed may be of concrete, plastic, or metal, and the elements, when not integral with the bed, of plastic or metal. By means of the elements, a rising reverse flow of air and water scavenges the whole of the filter medium, no dead spaces being left between the nozzles. |
