摘要 960,077. Skew compensating systems. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Dec. 13, 1961 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 44677/61. Heading G4C. [Also in Division H3] In a skew compensating system for data recorded on a magnetic tape, the bits of each character are read out to a register comprising a plurality of stages, one stage being provided for each bit, the reception of the last bit read initiating read out from the register. As described, a data character comprises six bits D0-D5, timing bits T1, T2 being recorded in tracks adjacent the respective tape edges, Fig. 4. Due to tape skewness, the timing bits T1, T2 when read are separated by a time interval called the "skew period". For each character, the bits D0-D5, T1, T2 are applied to a register comprising flip-flops 90-97. Read circuit, Fig. 2. In co-operation with each track is a corresponding head 46 coupled to a wire amplifier 60 and a read amplifier 72. The circuit includes also two Zener diodes 68, 70 connected back-to-back thereby providing a low impedance shunt across the input of the read amplifier 72 when the write amplifier 60 is operative and a high impedance across the input of the read amplifier 72 when the read amplifier is operative. Skew compensating circuit, Fig. 3. The bits of a character read from the tape are applied over lines 80-87 to flip-flops 90-97, the outputs from flip-flops 96, 97 which receive the timing pulses T1, T2, being connected to an "and" gate 100 which is opened at the end of the "skew period" i.e. as soon as all the character and timing bits have been received by the flip-flops 90-97. The output of the "and" gate 100 is connected to a pulse lengthening circuit 106 which may be a known fast recharging integrating circuit, or alternatively be as in Fig. 5 (not shown) (see Division H3). The pulse lengthening circuit provides a lengthened pulse which is applied to an "and" gate 108 to which is applied the output from a monostable multivibrator 104 which is triggered by the delayed output of the "and" gate 100, the delay being to accommodate various timing delays and errors in the circuits. The outputs of the flip-flops 90-95 are applied to integrating circuits 110-115 which serve as pulse stretchers in a similar way to the circuit 106, the outputs of the circuits 110-115 being applied to "and" gates 116-121 enabled by the output from the multivibrator 104 to produce synchronous output data signals, this output serving also to reset the flipflops 90-96. The gate 108 serves to provide timing pulses for use in a computer associated with the tape system.
