The present invention relates to a display apparatus and a control method thereof. The display device includes a display part displaying an image; an image process part processing an inputted image signal to allow the display part to display the image; and a control part which determines a peripheral region which is the outer part of the main observing region of a user in the image and controls the image process part to display the image by reducing the brightness of the inputted image signal in regards to the peripheral region. Thereby, the effects of image quality can be minimized and the power consumption to drive the display part can be saved.
