The device has a detector (9a) with light sensitive pixels arranged to a single-or two dimensional array. A projection lens (11) is provided for projecting a recording region (13) of an object surface (3a) on the detector, where the recording region is illuminated by an illuminating device (5). The illuminating device has a light source (5a) for producing a light spectrum and another light source (5b) for producing another light spectrum different from the former light spectrum, where the light sources are formed as LEDs or laser diodes. An independent claim is also included for a method for recoding speeds of an object surface.
