In a stroboscopic indicator a rotating cylinder 2, Fig. 2, carries firstly six axially staggered groups of transparencies of the digits 0-9, secondly, patterns of high and low magnetic reluctance material representative of, and arranged to correspond to, the digits 0-9 in each group, and thirdly, a magnetic rotor 18 so arranged that six stator windings 20-25 are sequentially energized as their associated groups of digits pass in front of the flash lamp 1, whereby signals obtained from sensing the reluctance patterns indicate the particular digit in front of the flash lamp, and the signals from the stator windings indicate its denominational significance (i.e. the particular group of digits in which it occurs). A desired display is achieved by comparing these signals with signals representative of the desired display and energizing the flash-lamp at the appropriate times. The arrangement of the digits within a group is in the order 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 2, 4, 6, 8, and each group commences and terminates with a decimal point, thereby enabling a minimum period between two flashes to be ensured by using one or other of the decimal points in dependence upon the parity of the adjacent digit.</p> |
