1,167,405. Co-oligomerizing olefins. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 4 April, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20170/67. Heading C5E. Co-oligomers are obtained from olefin mixtures containing at least one alpha-olefin by oligomerization in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) a nickel complex containing a group derived from a ketone of formula R 1 COCH 2 COR 3 or a ketoester of formula R 3 COCH 2 COOR 4 where each R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or other inert group, and (b) an aluminium alkyl alkoxide or trialkyl, at - 40‹ to + 2000 C. and under such pressure conditions that the reactants are maintained in the liquid or partially condensed phase. Suitable catalyst components are (a) nickel acetylacetonate, and (b) aluminium diethyl ethoxide or triethyl. Examples yield linear products, mainly co-dimers, from these mixtures: ethylene/propylene, ethylene/butene-1, and propylene/butene-1. |
