The device (100) has a support structure (130) for a windscreen (110) and a roof. The structure is intended to be fixed to a motor vehicle. A pendular support (140) is fixed at the structure via a connection pivot. A removable backrest (150) includes a fastening unit to make the backrest interdependent of the pendular support. The backrest presents another fastening unit to make the backrest interdependent of the motor vehicle. The support comprises arms fixed at side uprights of the structure by the connection pivot and another connection pivot. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for changing configuration of a passenger compartment device (2) a method for assembling a passenger compartment device.
