PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platform detecting device for a passenger conveyor capable of accurately detecting congestion near a platform as a whole. SOLUTION: This platform detecting device for a passenger conveyor includes: a laser scan sensor which emits a plurality of beams passing through on a horizontal cross section of a platform and catches the beam reflected by a part of a body of a passenger and measures a distance to a reflecting position in a predetermined cycle; a volume estimating means which estimates volume by synthesizing a distance measured in continuous former and later cycle; a slip ratio computing means which computes a slip ratio by counting the beam changed large in distance thereof measured in the continuous former and later cycles; and a control section including an alarm means which generates an alarm when any one of conditions is satisfied, volume exceeds a first threshold value or the slip ratio is less than a predetermined second threshold value.
