The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo dyes free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups of formula wherein A is the residue of an aryl or heterocyclic diazo component, X is -O-, -S- or a direct bond, R 1 is a cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl residue, R 2 is a H, an alkyl or alkoxy group or a residue XR 1 , R 3 is H or an alkyl group that may be substituted, R 4 is H, a cyano-, acyloxy-, alkoxycarbonyl- or cyanoalkoxy-alkyl group and in which, either R 2 is an alkyl or phenoxy radical in ortho-position to the amino group, or X is -S- or a direct bond and also -XR 1 may not be aralkoxy when R 2 is alkoxy, when both R 3 and R 4 are H. The dyes are formed by the usual azo coupling procedure using appropriate components. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose acetate, polyamide and preferably polyester materials in red to blue shades.
