摘要 <p>Energy is imparted by a transducer 36a to the inner surface of the casing 54 or other production tubing in a wellbore. The energy may be acousto-vibrational energy (e.g. from a tapper device), or heat energy (e.g. from a heated probe which contacts the inner surface, or from a laser directed at a point on the inner surface). The energy may imparted around the circumference of the casing or other tubing, and a fiber optic distributed sensor 56 located on the outer surface of the casing or other tubing is used to measure and record the energy that it receives whilst the transducer is moved to impart energy around the circumference. A record of energy versus position of the probe around the circumference can be obtained, from which maxima in the detected energy measurements can then be found. The position around the circumference which gave the maximum measurement should be the position at which the optical fiber of the fiber optic distributed sensor is located. This may be used to control the orientation of a perforation gun so that the fibre optic sensor is protected from damage.</p>
