<p>A method for redistributing routes between two routing protocols comprises learning, at a first node, a first routing table entry originating from a first side of a network and being received in a first protocol (e.g. OSPF) 202, creating second routing entry information in a second protocol (e.g. ISIS) 204, and setting a tag field in the second routing entry information 206. The second routing entry information is forwarded from the first node to a second node 208. The tag field of the second routing entry information is checked 210, and when set, the second node searches a routing table associated with the first side of the network for the second routing entry information 212. If it is already present then the second routing entry information is ignored 216. Otherwise the second routing entry information is added to the routing table associated with a second side of the network 214. The tag field may be carried in a prefix advertisement message e.g. a sub-TLV of ISIS TLV 135 or ISIS TLV 185.</p> |
