In a torch having a battery with two output terminal blades, the stud 12 of the bulb 10 is in permanent contact with one blade 3 and the other blade 4 is adapted to be moved by a switch 23 into contact with a metal plate 13 in permanent contact with the threaded part 11 of the bulb. The battery casing 2 is made of plastics material and has a non-detachable plastics lid 5 having a transparent recess 7 fitted with a deformable cylindrical tube 8 to receive the bulb. The tube has a longitudinal slot 9, and the plate 13, which is formed with a hole to receive the tube, has a first lug 15 extending through the slot to engage between a pair of threads on the bulb and a second lug 16 abutting the wall of the tube. The plate may act as a reflector. The switch 23 is slidable axially in a rectangular opening in the lid 5 and comprises a head 24 connected by a narrow neck (26, Fig. 6, not shown) to a lower portion 25 having a central slot (27) which enables the switch to be forced into the opening with a snap action. A corrugation 20 strengthens the blade 4 and engages the slot (27). |
