Racemic and optically active 1-(o-allylphenoxy) - 2 - hydroxy - 3 - isopropylaminopropane and their acid addition salts are prepared by standard methods, e.g. reacting 1-(oallylphenoxy) - 2,3 - epoxypropane with (a) isopropylamine; or (b) ammonia followed by reductive isopropylation, optionally followed in either case by resolution and/or salt formation. The compounds of the invention are #- adrenergic blocking agents and local anaesthetics, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier or diluent.
