The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating asthma which contains: one or two or more protein selected from the group consisting of VSIG4 protein, a segment thereof, an activation agent thereof, or an expression adjusting agent thereof; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The VSIG4 protein of the present invention reduces the collection of eosinocytes and neutrophilic leucocytes and the concentration of IL-5 and IL-17 which are main causes of asthma, and reduces the airway hyperresponsiveness, thereby using the VSIG4 protein as a target of the asthma treatment, and practically using the VSIG4 protein as a cell treatment or a protein treatment for preventing and treating asthma.
