PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet storing device capable of accurately detecting the loading height of sheets on a stack tray, in a device equipped with a paper discharging mode for storing sheets on the stack tray from a paper discharging path, and a paper discharging mode for storing a sheet bundle arranged and accumulated to be subjected to binding processing.SOLUTION: Sheet paper retaining means is disposed above a paper placing surface of a stack tray with its sheet pressing force being changeable to first one or second one. The pressing force of the paper retaining means is adjusted according to a paper discharging mode for storing sheets on the stack tray.
