PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic hybrid organic electroluminescent element superior in light-emitting characteristics to a conventional organic-inorganic hybrid organic electroluminescent element.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element having a structure in which a plurality of layers are laminated is characterized in that: it has a first metal oxide layer, a buffer layer, a low-molecular compound layer laminated on the buffer layer and including a light-emitting layer, and a second metal oxide layer in this order between a first electrode and a second electrode; and the buffer layer contains a reducing agent.
