PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission system, a gateway, a data communication method, and a program, which are not influenced by congestion and failures of an IP network when sending/receiving image data converted from FAX data.SOLUTION: A facsimile transmission system includes: a facsimile device 50; a home gateway 70 connected to the facsimile device 50 via a public switched telephone network 70; and a communication device 30 connected to the home gateway 10 without using a relay device. The home gateway 10 converts facsimile data transmitted from the facsimile device 50 into image data to be displayed on the communication device 30 and transmits the image data to the communication device 30. Alternatively, the home gateway 10 converts the image data into the facsimile data to transmit the facsimile data to the facsimile device 50.
