PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible suppression of uneven luminance and suppression of delay until display after input in an image display device comprising a backlight composed of a plurality of light source blocks whose light emission is independently controllable, and controlling the luminance in each light source block according to image data.SOLUTION: An image display device which displays an image according to image data comprises: light emission means including a plurality of light sources each of whose light emission is independently controllable; setting means for setting a light emission control block for controlling one or the plurality of light sources at common light emission luminance; determination means for determining the light emission luminance in each light emission control block according to image data; and control means for controlling the light emission by the light emission means in each light emission control block according to the light emission luminance determined by the determination means. An image includes a plurality of display areas, and the setting means sets a size of the light emission control block of the light emission means corresponding to each display area in accordance with a movement amount of an image in each display area of the image.
