PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably perform automatic drive which appropriately reflects intention of a driver.SOLUTION: A vehicle control device (10) controls a vehicle (310) capable of performing automatic drive where at least a portion of driving operation of a driver is automatically performed. The vehicle control device has: leading vehicle detection means (101) which detects a leading vehicle (320) traveling ahead of an own vehicle; measuring means (102) which measures continuous detection period during which detection of the leading vehicle continues; and mode selection means (107) which selects, when the automatic drive is started, a follow-up mode to follow up the leading vehicle if the continuous detection period is equal to or larger than a first threshold value (A1) or a passing mode putting a higher priority on a set speed of the vehicle than following up the leading vehicle if the continuous detection period is less than the first threshold value. |
