PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize commodities with substantially the same appearance but different names, or commodities with the same name but different appearances, with the high recognition rate.SOLUTION: A commodity recognition apparatus detects the appearance feature amount of a commodity included in an image photographed by imaging unit. The commodity recognition apparatus then collates data of the extracted appearance feature amount with feature amount data in a recognition dictionary file, and extracts candidates of the commodity included in the image. The commodity recognition apparatus further recognizes a character string included in the image photographed by the imaging unit. The commodity recognition apparatus determines the commodity of recognition target from the extracted candidates of the commodity on the basis of the recognized character string. |
