PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting device capable of being easily restarted by easily engaging a pinion gear with a ring gear regardless of normal rotation and reverse rotation even when difference in rotational frequencies of the ring gear and the pinon gear is large, in engaging the pinion gear with the ring gear during rotation of the ring gear.SOLUTION: An engine starting device includes: a pinion portion (30) having a one-way clutch spline-coupled to a pinion shaft side, axially sliding, and idling with respect to a rotation opposite to engine rotation; and extruding mechanisms (40, 50 and 60) moving the pinion portion to an engagement position with a ring gear (100). The pinion portion can move in the axial direction by a pinion (34) itself, and has a chamfered shape (34d) which is a curved face along a tooth surface, and becomes deeper toward the axial direction, on a tip portion at a ring gear side, of the tooth surface (34c) at a torque non-transmission face side. |
