PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor hetero particle including two different types of semiconductor particles, exhibiting photocatalytic function without use of an electronic mediator.SOLUTION: The semiconductor hetero particle includes a first semiconductor particle 1a, a first metal particle 2a joined to the first semiconductor particle 1a, a second semiconductor particle 1b, and a second metal particle 2b joined to the second semiconductor particle 1b. The electric potential at the lower end of conduction band of the first semiconductor particle 1a is more negative than the electric potential at the upper end of valence band of the second semiconductor particle 1b. The work functions of the first metal particle 2a and the second metal particle 2b are each independently equal to any one of the electric potential at the lower end of conduction band of the first semiconductor particle 1a and the electric potential at the upper end of valence band of the second semiconductor particle 1b, or are located between the electric potentials.
