PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration of image quality due to color mixture in an EL display device of a color filter system.SOLUTION: The EL display device has a first substrate including a lower electrode formed on the front thereof for every pixel, a pixel separation film for separating the lower electrode, and a white light emitting EL layer formed on the upper layer of the lower electrode and the pixel separating film, a second substrate including a black matrix and a color filter on the rear face, and a sealing layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate, and the EL display device satisfies the following formula: W>2 tan(&thetas;)(H+H+H+H)-(W+W). Where, W: the width of an opening region in a specific pixel, W: the width of the black matrix, W: the width of the pixel separating film, H: the thickness of the black matrix, H: the thickness of the color filter in a specific pixel, H: a distance from the front of the pixel separating film to the rear face of the color filter in a specific pixel, H: the height of the pixel separating film (a distance from the front of the lower electrode to the front of the pixel separating film), and &thetas;: a critical angle between the second substrate and air. |
