PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate manufacturing method capable of restraining foreign matters from being mixed with molten glass in a step of clarifying the molten glass, and a glass substrate manufacturing device.SOLUTION: The glass substrate manufacturing method includes a melting step, a clarification step, and a molding step. In the clarification step, molten glass G flows inside a platinum or platinum alloy clarification pipe 41 to form a vapor phase space 41c. The vapor phase space 41c is a space above a liquid surface LS of the molten glass G inside the clarification pipe 41. The clarification pipe 41 has a vent pipe 41a projecting outward from an outer wall of the clarification pipe 41, and a receiving part 41d provided above the liquid surface LS of the molten glass G. The vent pipe 41a communicates the vapor phase space 41c with an external space of the clarification pipe 41. The receiving part 41d covers one part of a cross section of the vent pipe 41a when the vent pipe 41a is seen in a longitudinal direction of the vent pipe 41a. |
