PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve responsiveness in clutch connection of a lock-up clutch by a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A torque converter includes: a front cover 3; an impeller 4 whose outer peripheral part is fixed on the front cover 3 by welding; a turbine 5; a stator 6; and a lock-up clutch 8 for directly transmitting torque from the front cover 3 to the turbine 5. The lock-up clutch 8 has a piston 30 in which a frictional member 34 is fixed and moved in an axial direction by hydraulic pressure and the frictional member 34 is pressed to the front cover 3. The piston 30 is arranged so that the frictional member 34 is brought into contact with the front cover 3 in a state that hydraulic pressure for actuating the piston is not supplied and the frictional member 34 is separated from the front cover 3 in a state that hydraulic oil is supplied between the front cover 3 and the piston 30. |
