The method involves insulating a canister (3) with respect to a fuel tank (1), and connecting the canister with a thermal engine (7) when pressure of the fuel tank is higher or equal to a predetermined limiting value. Fuel vapors in the fuel tank are recovered by the canister when the fuel vapor level of the purged canister is lower or equal to the predetermined limiting value. The insulated canister is placed with respect to the container for connecting the canister with the thermal engine when the pressure of the fuel tank is lower or equal to the predetermined limiting value. An independent claim is also included for a hybrid vehicle.
