The present invention relates to a binder for an electrode composition and a secondary battery comprising the same and, more specifically, to a CMC for an electrode composition and a method for manufacturing the same. When the CMC of the present invention is used as a binder for an electrode composition, binding forces between active materials and an active material and a current collector can be stably maintained despite the large changes in volume of cathode active materials during charging and discharging, and cracks due to the volume expansion of cathode active materials are minimized such that commercial use of high volume silicon- or tin-based cathode active materials is possible, thereby contributing to the manufacture of high-capacity lithium secondary batteries.
