<p>The invention relates to a cosmetic treatment method for reducing or preventing reactive hyperpigmentation of the skin, characterized in that at least one compound of formula (I): R1-CHOH-CH(NH-COR2)(CH2OH) (I) is applied onto the skin, where R1 is a C13 to C17 alkyl or alkenyl radical, and R2 is a C13 to C19 straight hydrocarbon radical that may comprise one or more ethylenic unsaturations, in particular one or two ethylenic unsaturations, or a composition containing the compound of formula (I) in a physiologically acceptable medium is applied onto the skin.
