Bottles 1 travel on an endless conveyer 2 towards a working station, e.g. where they may be filled from a reservoir 3, and accumulate against a stop 8, while being laterally supported by guides 10. When sufficient bottles have accumulated the stop 8 is withdrawn, and a second stop 11 is directed into the path of the released bottles downstream of the working station. When the leading bottle has reached the stop 11 a horizontal support plate 13, which may have a bevelled leading edge, is pushed under the bottles, and individual bottles are located for filling by vertical partitions 14 on the support plate 13. The stop 8 is then directed back over the conveyer 2 to intercept further bottles. The reservoir 3, which may be of the constant-level type filled through supply pipe 3a, is then lowered and nozzles 7 equipped with closing valves enter and fill the bottles. On completion of the filling process the reservoir 3 is raised and the support plate 13 and stop 11 are withdrawn, the filled bottles being deposited back on the conveyer 2 which carries them away. Capsuling or sealing of the bottles may also be performed while they are held by the plate 13. In an alternative form the reservoir 3 is stationary, and the support plate 13 can be raised vertically to lift the bottles into the filling position. Control of the stops 8, 11, plate 13 and reservoir 3 is through pneumatic pistons and cylinders operated by cams (19, 21, 22, 23), Fig. 1 (not shown), on a shaft (16) driven in synchronism with the conveyer (2). |
