Provided is a metal halide lamp having fast light beam startup. The present invention is a metal halide lamp, which is for vehicles, does not contain mercury, is supplied with 23-27 W of electrical power during stable lighting, and is equipped with a light-emitting tube provided with both a light-emitting section (11) provided with a discharge space (111) therewithin and a pair of seal sections (12) formed at both ends of the light-emitting section (11), and wherein the discharge space (111) is provided with a cylindrical section (1111), and conical sections (1112) formed at both ends of the cylindrical section (1111), and when the thickness of the section having the greatest outer diameter of the light-emitting section (11) is d1 and the thickness of the light-emitting section (11) between a boundary point (P1) of the light-emitting section (11) and the seal sections (12) and a point (P2) on the conical sections (1112) when a vertical line is drawn from the boundary point (P1) to the conical sections (1112) is d2, 1.6 mm <= d1 <= 1.8 mm and 0.75 <= d2/d1 <= 0.95 are satisfied. |
