An optical communications module (21) comprising: a modulation current supply circuit (63) for supplying a modulation current of a size corresponding to a logical value for data to be transmitted, to a light-emitting element (LD) for transmitting burst optical signals; a monitor light-receiving element (PD) for outputting a current in accordance with the intensity of the light received from the light-emitting element (LD); a measurement unit (31) for measuring the output current from the monitor light-receiving element (PD) at a set measurement timing; an adjustment unit (32) for adjusting the size of the modulation current, on the basis of the output current measurement results from the measurement unit (31); and a measurement timing setting unit (33) for setting the measurement timing on the basis of a control signal for controlling the transmission of the burst optical signals.
