The method involves creating a prototype structure (1) with first, second, third and fourth body parts (3, 7, 11,15). The first part is positioned relative to the second, third and fourth parts and aligned relative to the fourth part with a defined clearance. A permissible tolerance range for the clearance and a permissible tolerance range for deformation of the first and second parts are defined. A relative distance between the first and second parts is determined such that undue deformations and undue clearance do not occur between first and the fourth parts. The first, second, third and fourth body parts are designed as a soft nose bumper (5), a mudguard (9), a front end module (13) and a bonnet (17), respectively.
