PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide therapeutic compositions, and more specifically, dialysate compositions and compositions called dialysate precursor compositions, which may be diluted with water and mixed with a base to thereby form the dialysate compositions.SOLUTION: Dialysate precursor compositions, as well as dialysate compositions prepared therefrom, contain citric acid and an effective amount of a buffering agent selected from acetate and/or lactate. The buffering agent allows a physiologically acceptable amount of citrate to maintain desired pH of the dialysate.
